A penguin that surfs?

Unix, and more recently, Linux has been widely viewed as an inhospitable environment for geeks and college students. Linux set out to change all that. Linux people adopted a penguin as its "mascot" to give it a bit of personality and approachability.

So, that explains the penguin, but what about Surfing Penguin? The surfing part was suggested by the daughter of one of the partners in the business. The other daughter immediately got into a graphics program and drew a picture of a surfing penguin.

That is the logo that you see on these pages and is the symbol for the business. At the outset, the partners decided that a business should be fun and should reflect the personalities of the people that own it. It should, of course, take itself seriously when it comes to business matters, but it should also have a lighter side. Hence was born the "Surfing Penguin".
